My lizard died last night, I had her for six years.

She was by far one of my best companions I’ve ever had. She wasn’t eating as much and had a lump of sand on her face, which then went into her stomach and killed her. She was the best.

Nissan Fish Robot…Things?

Apparently Nissan has used their bailout money – much like Honda – to make ROBOTS. But not just any robots, these creatures act like schools of fish to get around obstacles. To quote my good friend Cnet news:

The automaker studied how large schools of fish can move without colliding. It says Eporo imitates three rules of fish movement: avoiding crashes, traveling side by side, and keeping close to other members of the school.

The robots use laser range finders and ultra-wideband radio to determine distance to obstacles. They also communicate with each other to form the most efficient group formation to maneuver through tight spots.

How this crap works.

I mean, look at these guys (http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/bto/20091002/eporo2.jpg), they are just so chicken like and adorable. I want one as a pet. Now.

Langley Tunnel gets Wind knocked Out.

Yup, after over 80 years of service, the Langley Full Scale Wind Tunnel has let out it’s final breath. The final mission for the immense wind tunnel, built when biplanes were still the norm for aviators, was to test the aerodynamics of the futuristic X-48C and its blended-wing body. (A separate version of the prototype, the X-48C, is being tested on the other side of the country at NASA’s Dryden Flight Research Center in California.)

The tunnel will be torn down and replaced.

BREAKING NEWS! TSUNAMI IN SOUTH PACIFIC!

Sorry for all the updates, but this is kind of a big deal. As the title states, there’s just been a Tsunami in the South Pacific/Oceania area. The BNO news article says:

A massive earthquake struck the South Pacific on Wednesday morning, according to officials, generating a possible destructive tsunami that struck at least one island. Tsunami warnings remain in effect, but there was no immediate word on possible damage or casualties from either the earthquake or the tsunami. The earthquake, which had a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 to 8.3, struck 127 miles south-southwest of Apia, Samoa and about 139 miles southwest of Pago Pago on American Samoa. The tremor, which struck at 6.45 a.m. local time, had a depth of about 30 miles, making it a fairly shallow earthquake. Shallow earthquakes often tend to cause more damage, and increase the risk of a destructive earthquake. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center immediately issued a tsunami warning for American Samoa, Samoa, Niue, Wallis-Futuna, Tokelau, Cook Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Kiribati, Kermadec Islands, Fiji, Howland-Baker, Jarvis Island, New Zealand, French Polynesia and Palmyra Island. Later, tsunami warnings were also issued for Palmyra Island, Vanuatu, Nauru, Marshall Island and the Solomon Islands. A tsunami watch is also in effect for Johnston Island, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Papua New Guinea, Pohnpei, Wake Island, Pitcairn, Midway Island, Chuuk and Australia. Although the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a watch for Australia, the Join Australian Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat to the country or its islands.A spokeswoman for the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center told BNO News that a 13.1 foot (4 meter) tsunami had hit the harbor of Pago Pago on American Samoa, but said she had no information about possible casualties. The first floor of at least one government building in Pago Pago was inundated with water, she added.

“Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter. An investigation is underway to determine if there is a tsunami threat to Hawaii,” a bulletin from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center read.

A witness told Radio New Zealand that villages on the south-east coast of Samoa’s Upolu had been flattened by the earthquake and that police were moving people to higher ground. It also said that a 10 foot (3 meter) tsunami struck its coast, a spokeswoman for the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center was not immediately able to confirm that.

Shaking near the epicenter reportedly lasted up to three minutes.

A moderate earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.6 struck nearly 30 minutes after the initial quake, at 7.15 a.m. local time. A spokesman for the United States Geological Survey warned that more strong aftershocks should be expected.

Hitler was a woman?

Another weird one I’ve been reading about recently. Apparently Russian scientists did DNA tests on a skull – more specifically the only part that wasn’t cremated (the jaw) – where Hitler was presumably buried. It had a bullet hole in it, so it had to be Hitler, right? Well if you read the title then you know what I’m going to say. Either Hitler is Lady GaGa’s grandfather, or we are sorely mistaken. DNA tests said the skull belonged to a younger woman! Now you’re thinking, “But Turnip, what about Eva Braun? She killed herself, right?” And you are correct in that fact, Reader. But she killed herself with cyanide, and there were no reports of her being shot or shooting herself. So it couldn’t be her… Right?

HOLY CRAP THERE’S WATER ON THE MOON!?

I kid you not, there is WATER on the moon. Remember how they were going to blow up a chunk of it with a satellite? Yeah, well there’s water apparently. Even before they did it. According to a news site:

“The moon’s water is located within two millimetres of the surface, but the moon is still quite dry, with about a litre of water for every ton of soil. “Even the driest deserts in the Earth have more water than are at the poles and surfaces of the moon,” Nasa scientist Jim Green said.”

Yeah, isn’t that cool? But you’re most likely thinking, “Turnip! It says the driest deserts have more water than the moon!” Yeah, but at least we can confirm that liquid water exists on extra-terrestrial objects! We have now three ETO’s with water or ice: Mars, Moon, and Europa. The first two may not have life, but there might be a change that Europa does.

So yeah, it’s a good day when you find water on the moon.

Yes, and thank you for viewing this page, I am Turnip, and will be informing you on all things Tech! Before we start I would like to say that this might be a temporary thing or it might be long lasting. Only time will tell. A little bit about me, I live in the United States, am a full-time student, and might never have a relationship at all (like most nerds). The site may go on hiatus shortly because my dad has a tumor and we’re going through that tunnel and all, as well as on October 8th to the 11th I will be offline to take a trip to Colorado.
